Playboy Cartoon Preliminary Sequence: April 2002

Hef's approved - "OK color HMH" in red pencil - loose-style gag rough original; full-page color cartoon published on p. 116 in the April 2002 issue of Playboy.  (8 1/2 x 11 standard copy paper, with 2 overlays, which are common in Doug's hand-drawn work)


first preliminary hand-drawn pencil rough on heavy tracing vellum; image area:  6 x 7 3/4

Doug's color rough "tests" color selections before going to final art; typically he xeroxes the final pencil rough on 8 1/2 x 11 standard copy paper and then applies aniline dyes.  (notice changes made in hair color and dress for both women and men)
